SILENT HOLOCAUST OF THE PINK TRIANGLES

GAY MEN UNDER THE NAZI REGIME

On the day of remembrance we want to remember the sacrifice of thousands of homosexual prisoners interned by the Nazis in the concentration camps. These prisoners wore the pink triangle on the uniform of the camp, and were treated in a particularly brutal way. According to the accounts of many of the survivors, homosexuals were among those who suffered the worst abuses within the camps.Although the Third Reich was one of the cruelest homophobic regimes in modern history, we will have to wait until the beginning of the seventies, both in West and eastern Germany, to have first-hand accounts of Nazi violence against homosexuals.
